Arlington Heights New Resident Checklist

Thinking of moving to Arlington Heights? Here are a few useful facts that will make your move easier. Many current residents don’t even know some of these useful facts!

  • The Village requires you to purchase a village vehicle sticker for $25. You can purchase the sticker at Village Hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road. After the first year, you will be mailed a form for future stickers.
  • Arlington Heights trash is picked up two times per week. Groot Waste Services provides the service and can be contacted at 800-244-1977 for details. The price is just over $20 per month and is billed every two months. Extra charges for yard waste include a sticker for about $1.50 and purchasing the brown waste bags. These bags and stickers are sold at your local grocery or hardware store.
  • Please call 911 for all police and fire services. 911 does not have to be used for emergencies only.
  • If you need to park your car on the street overnight, call the police department first. Just call 847-368-5300 and they will need the make, color, and license plate number of the car that will be parked overnight. Without a call, there is a no parking law that takes effect at 2 am.
  • For water service, please call the water billing department at 847-368-5520. You will be charged at the rate of about $4 per 1,000 gallons. Arlington heights does supply Lake Michigan Water to its residents.
  • Nicor gas service is established by calling 1-888-642-6748.
  • Electric service is established by calling Commonwealth Edison at 1-800-334-7661.
  • There are 2 main cable service providers, WideOpenWest (WOW) and Comcast. WideOpenWest can be reached at 1-866-496-9669 and Comcast at 1-866-594-1234.

  • If the sewer line of your home is not functioning, please call the Public Works Department at 847-368-5800 on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A Village employee will inspect the sewer main to determine whether the problem is the Village’s responsibility. After hours, or on weekends, call the Police Desk at 847-368-5300. If the problem is the resident’s service line, a licensed and bonded plumbing company should be contacted at once to see that the sewer is properly rodded. A resident’s service line runs from their home to the point of connection to the Village’s sewer main.
