If you have children you most likely find yourself carving pumpkins and planning costumes for Halloween. While the tradition of Halloween is unknown to most children they just love the fun of pretending to be someone or something they aren’t, getting lots of candy, and carving pumpkins. Sure you can go to Jewel to pick up a pumpkin, but why not take a morning and have a little family fun. Goebbert’s Farm in South Barrington has it all from Camel rides, Pony rides, petting zoo, shopping, and naturally pumpkins.
Getting to Goebbert’s
Fair warning if you go on a nice weekend day there will be a line. With traffic backed up at least a mile by around noon you might want to plan on a little extra travel time or show up early to avoid the lines.
Rides, Animals, and a Haunted House
In case you can’t read the sign in the photo that is $4 for Pony, Wagon, or Camel rides, $4 for the Haunted House, and $4-6 for the petting zoo.
Not to often do you see Camels in Chicago, but leave it to Goebbert’s Farm to bring in the ride. At $4 per ride it’s well worth it to get a picture of your kid on a camel. They will have a great story to tell at school the next day!
Pony Rides are always a favorite among kids. These miniature horses had a line of at least a hundred kids waiting for a their chance at a ride.
Time to Shop
Had to add a picture of my daughter nicely sitting on a pumpkin. It was amazing to me how many parents let their children pick up the pumpkin and drop them…you can see the results. Seem to remember being taught if you break it, you buy it!
If you need some cute Halloween decorations there is a store with a wide range of indoor and outdoor decorations.
Why stop your decorating with just pumpkins? Add in a few gourds and a little Indian corn and set your home apart from the rest.
Crowds
This place is huge and people are everywhere. This photo doesn’t even do justice to the size or the crowds. Think that next year we will be going on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
The Day is Done
So the day is done, well at least for our little pumpkin. After all the walking (and chasing of my 2 year old) it’s to bad they don’t have adult strollers.
Everyone in our group agreed that next year they will take a day off of work to go during the week. We had no idea how much there would be to do at Goebbert’s and didn’t plan on the crowds or line to get into the parking lot. Sadly due to nap time we couldn’t stand in line for an hour to get tickets for the rides. So plan on spending a full morning or afternoon to be able to enjoy everything. Also send someone straight to the line to buy tickets for everything you want to do, the booth is in the back of the Farm.
Happy Halloween!

Sounds like a nice time for the family and kids. All we have are roadside stands. Its either that, or buy one at the grocery store.

In addition to the rides there are plenty of photo opportunities with the Sesame group of characters, Disney characters and a tractor.

We visited your farm on Friday, October 12, 2007 and left a Cannon digital camera on the counter as we checked out with a purchase. It is in a black carrying case. Please let us know how we can make arrangements to pick up the camera. Thank you. Shirley Kukasky
