Take a Moment to Remember

Arlington National CemeteryWith our hectic lives and busy schedules most of us take our freedoms for granted. We sometimes forget about the men and women that have given their lives to protect our freedoms and way of life.

Putting politics aside today is the day that it doesn’t matter if you believe that the current “War on Terror” is right or wrong. Today is the day that we need to make it known that we are a nation that stands together. A nation that supports our troops and remember those that have served our Country, those that have given their lives, and those wounded in battle.

There are so many heroes that should be remembered and thanked. Picking one is almost impossible, but I personally would like to take a moment and thank a fellow Rolling Meadows High School graduate Sgt. Bryan Anderson for his service. His story is inspirational, he lost both legs and his left hand when his Humvee was hit by an explosive yet has stayed positive about life.

If you would like to share a story, thank someone, or honor someone who has served our Country feel free to leave a comment.

I would like to mention two individuals that I know that have proudly served in the Iraqi war - Master Sergeant Charles Benson and Captain Brian Grant both of the US Marines.

Charles Benson is a resident of Bonita Springs and served with the ground forces at the time of the initial invasion of Iraq.

Brian Grant is a native of Naples, Florida and is an attack helicopter pilot flying coverage for our ground troops currently fighting in Iraq.

I would also like to mention Specialist Brandon D. Gordon, of Naples, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan this past February.

    Great post Ken!

One of my best friends is a Captain in the Army and is currently stationed in Afghanistan for an 18 month tour. He also served a tour of duty in Kuwait not to long ago.

My hat is off to all the brave men and women that have or are currently serving our country.
